A Guide for CRNs Appointing Members to the Foundation

Preamble:
As with all other CRN activities, the process for choosing a member should be guided by the principles of CRN development:
- Include everyone
- Value everyone’s perspective
- Encourage meaningful participation
- Share power – make decisions together
- Everyone has something to contribute and something to learn
Goals of the Foundation for this year:
- Establish and operationalize the Foundation
- Establish a Resource Development Strategy and begin fund raising
The Role of Foundation Members:
- Participation in the activities, discussions and decision-making of the Foundation
- Represent and put forth the ideas, thoughts and opinions of their CRN at meetings of the Foundation
- Provide information to the people they represent on the activities and decisions of the Foundation
Personal Attributes:
- Skills, ability or interest in resource development
- Time and interest to participate
- Enthusiasm and support for the new Foundation
- An understanding of the CRN role in the community and the role of the Foundation
- Belief in the principles of CRN development
- Understand and embrace the principles of resource development of the Foundation
- Contacts in the community that may assist with resource development
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Participation in teleconference meetings with the Foundation Board and staff
- Provide input and response to discussion papers or other matters
- Ensure distribution of information and newsletters from the Foundation to all members of their local CRN
- Participation in Committees of the Foundation, i.e. Resource Development Committee, Nomination Committee, etc.
- Consider standing for election to the Board of Directors
Context:
- One member one vote
- In accordance with the Societies Act of BC, the Income Tax Act, the By-Laws of the Foundation, and on the advice of our legal counsel, paid employees of the Foundation and paid coordinators of CRNs are NOT eligible to be your appointed member.
