JOIN OUR TEAM!

The Trail Gatekeeper Program is looking for volunteers to get involved with this innovative community program. As a community partner, members of your organization or business will play a vital role in our community by watching out for seniors who may be at risk, or who may not have been seen or heard from in days. This will take no extra time out of your day. It just involves doing what you are already doing, but with an improved awareness of the at-risk elderly.

Gatekeeper volunteers are trained to recognize when a senior might need help, and to call the Gatekeeper Telephone Line. We ensure the older adults in the Greater Trail Region get connected with the program, services and care they may need to live safely in their own homes.

WHAT'S INVOLVED?

Training for staff and volunteers
Training sessions will teach staff how to recognize when a senior may need assistance and how to make a referral. Sessions are scheduled at a time convenient to your company and your staff. Training sessions take approximately one hour. The training includes; signs & symptoms that someone may be in trouble, how to make the call, what happens after you make the call, dementia and its affects. Those people completing the training will receive a Gatekeeper booklet, brochure and pin.

Working Together
As a community partner, it would also be helpful if you could assign one or more staff to be responsible for coordinating the Gatekeeper Program in your organization. Together, we will ensure that staff can access the information and ongoing support they need to be effective, while protecting the rights of the older adults in our community.

Regular Communication
Ongoing communication with our Community Partners and individual Gatekeepers is needed to keep us on the right track. Sharing our success stories, as well as the challenges we face, will ensure the program remains responsive to the needs of our community.

YOUR CALL CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

The success of the Trail Gatekeeper Program depends on your support. Together we can make a difference in the lives of many seniors in our community who might otherwise be overlooked. For more information call:
